Today Oprah hosts her first ever “Holiday Music Extravaganza,” and either she’s become a country fan or someone has told her that country music = good ratings, because she’s featuring both Sugarland AND Tim McGraw as part of the show.  Sugarland will sing with Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, while Tim will team up with Alicia Keys, an R&B singer seen most recently singing that “New York” song with Jay-Z at the World Series.  Oprah, in case you didn’t know, is on at 4 o’clock on KGW, channel 8.

Poor Andy Griggs lost his house in a fire a week or so ago, and while he’s thankful that his family is okay, they did lose everything, including their dog Lexie.  Now while Lexie did definitely survive the fire, she was so terrified as firefighters fought to save the house that she probably got disoriented and wandered away.  So let’s hope someone finds her and gives the Griggses a little bit of much needed good news.

“The Blind Side”, starring Sandra Bullock and our very own Tim McGraw, opened the same weekend as the hotly-anticipated-torso-bearing vampire movie “New Moon.”  So you’d think that would be box office death for Tim and his pals, but check this out:  While of course New Moon skunked all the competition the first weekend, this past weekend was a pretty close call.  New Moon:  $42.5 million, Blind Side:  $40 million!  I guess if  Tim’s movie had sucked a little more (get it?) it might have even taken that top slot.

with Nicole Kidman showing off her singing voice once again in a movie (the musical “Nine” opens on Christmas Day), the question now comes up in lots of interviews with both Nicole and her hubby Keith Urban:  will they ever do a song together?  Nicole says NO!  She is very self-conscious of her singing voice even though it’s actually quite good.  But Keith says never say never.  “I don’t think it’s ever out of the question…we sort of do our own things professionally.  But I love singing with her at home.  It’s quite nice.  He also adds that their daughter has quite a set of pipes on her, and it’s fun to sit her by the piano and let her wail.  Here’s a sneek look at Nicole’s singing in her upcoming movie:

Here’s a good stocking stuffer for the tween in your life, or anyone who wants to support the Special Olympics:

Along with some teeny bopper faves, like Miley Cyrus and the girls from High School Musical, this CD has some cool country cuts, like Carrie Underwood singing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” Kellie Pickler’s “Santa Baby,” and a super-groovy version of “Silent Night” by Gloriana.  Nice stocking stuffer, I think!

To be alive, that is, after his house burned down over the weekend.  The singer of such hits as “You Won’t Ever Be Lonely” and “She’s More” escaped the blaze with his family unhurt, but the fire caused severe damage and they pretty much lost everything.  Andy says he and his family are strong in their faith and grateful for all the well-wishes from fans.
