Actually “Here for a Good Time” is his 58th #1, which means he’s had more number one songs that any artist in history.  But it is his first #1 as a songwriter.  George co-wrote the song with his son Bubba and another guy, which means this truly is a first for the guy who has broken just about every chart record there is.

Who’s a big enough deal that they can release 2 CDs in the same month?  That would be George Strait.  On September 6th, he’ll put out “Here for a Good Time,”  a CD of new stuff.  Then a week later, he’ll release his NINTH greatest hits CD, called “Icon.”  Most people are lucky to have 9 hits, let along 9 CDs full of hits.  Leave it to King George.  Oh, and by the way, his son Bubba is going to make him a grandpa later this year, so it’s kind of a cool time for George Strait.

Remember George Strait in “Pure Country”?  So cute.  Well he’s making at least an appearance in a sequel which is scheduled to be released this Friday called “Pure Country 2:  The Gift”.  While this movie involves some of the same people as the original, the plot is totally different.  Singer Katrina Elam plays a girl who was given a perfect singing voice by some angels when she was born.  When she becomes a big country star, she breaks some of the rules that the angels set out for her, and she loses her voice.  If you want to see more, here’s the trailer:

George Strait has more number one songs (57) than any other artist of any kind, including Elvis and the Beatles. But that’s not the record he broke this week. He is now the only artist to have a top ten song on the Billboard charts every year for THIRTY YEARS. His first one was “Unwound” back in 1981, and it’s been an annual tradition ever since. In fact, George has had a total of 82 consecutive top ten hits. It’s hard to imagine anyone breaking that record any time soon.

Would you believe….Mindy McCready?  No?   Taylor Swift?  That’s more like it.  the girl has received EIGHT Grammy nods, second only to Beyonce, who as Kanye West would like to remind us, made the “best video of all time.”  So with Beyonce and Taylor competing once again in the top categories, and Kanye also nominated for 6 awards, what’s going to happen if Taylor beats Beyonce again, or vice versa?  Will he be strapped to his seat?  Or maybe wearing a shock collar?

Other country artists who did well are Keith Urban, who got 4 noms, and George Strait, Lee Ann Womack, and Jamey Johnson.  Zac Brown Band did pretty well, with 3 noms and one in the general category of Best New Artist.  The show airs on CBS onthe 31st of January.   Click here for a full list of the country nominations.

We’re already pretty excited that Reba and George Strait are teaming up for a tour this Spring.  Butnow they’ve announced that Lee Ann Womack will join them for all of those dates….talk about a powerhouse trio!  It sure would be nice if they would stop by the Rose Garden!  Of course if they WERE coming, due to some strange rule, I could never officially announce a date until our station is given the OK, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing a little internet search and figuring it out for yourself!
