Jake Owen tweeted this picture yesterday:

The Tweet with the picture said “you should see the other guy.”  So what the heck happened?  We talked to Jake early this morning, and it turns out he was on a hunting trip with his twin bro.  He was sighting a rifle when it recoiled and caught him right between the eyes.  He knew it was a real bleeder when he saw the looks in his friends’ eyes.  So he’s out in the middle of nowhere with a huge gash on  his face….doesn’t want to ruin the hunting trip, so what’s he do?  He finds a tube of crazy glue and dumps the whole thing on the cut and then keeps going!  He’s on the mend now, though I’m guessing that’ll leave a scar.

BUT WAIT….THERE’S MORE:

When Jake came out to play for our Hometown Holiday show last year, we had kind of an epic, crazy, very late night with him, and at some point during that night, Jake confessed that he didn’t think he could become a big star unless he got all buff like Kenny Chesney.  So he challenged Mike to a fitness competition involving body fat ratios, pull-ups, tennis, you name it.  We thought it was somethng we’d all forget in the morning, but as it turns out, Jake has not had a SIP of alcohol since that night, and he’s been working non-stop with his trainer.  He is ALL fired up about it!  A date hasn’t been set yet, but when Jake can make it out here, he intends to take Mike on for the title of Buffest Dude.

By now you’ve heard the line in Jake Owen’s song, “Eight Second Ride” about watchin’ the cup where he’s been spittin’ his dip.”  For me, that line brings back memories of my high school cafeteria, where you were more than likely to sit in a puddle of chew spit if you didn’t look before you sat.  Jake says the line came straight from his brother, who has chewed forever, so everytime Jake gets in his truck his brother always has to tell him to watch out for the cup.  Jake also says he thinks chicks can relate to that line since most everyone has dated someone with the ol’ chew cup in the truck.

It’s always interesting to see which newer artists have the most rabid fans, because sometimes it’s an indicator of how big they’ll get. In the case of Jake Owen, if his fans are any indication, he’ll be huge! One fan posted a story online about a road trip to Jake’s hometown of Vero Beach, FL, for a charity show Jake does each year with his tennis-playing buddy Mardy Fish. The group of fans included some faces I recognized from Jake’s performance at our holiday show, which means some fans travelled all the way across the country to hang with Jake, tour the places where he got his start, and enjoy a show at his high school.
