The TV show “The Voice” was a big hit here in the US, and it turns out that everyone in Australia loved it, too.  So they’re doing an Australian version, and now a newspaper there is reporting that Keith Urban will be one of the “mentors,” just like Blake was in our version.  If this report is correct, Keith would be joining Nicole Richie’s husband Joel Madden, Heidi Klum’s husband Seal, and an Australian pop singer I’ve never heard of…Delta Goodrem.  Quite a line-up.  And three of them have very famous spouses, I just noticed.  I’ll keep you posted.

Not surprisingly, when Keith Urban showed up on Ellen’s show yesterday, she roped him into doing something bizarre and funny. This time it was a fake commercial for Keith’s real cologne, “Phoenix”. Taking advantage of her lesbian status, Ellen is ALL OVER Keith, even licking his face at one point. It’s all to promote the fact that on Keith’s website you can make your own Phoenix ad and win a big grand prize. Here’s the fake ad, and also the outtakes, because as you can imagine, they had a hard time not cracking up while taping.

Lots of stars showing up at country concerts these days. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s just okay or even awkward. This one rocks, though. It’s Jack Black at Keith Urban’s LA show, singing the Charlie Daniels classic “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” The audio isn’t great, but you can get the idea that this was a seriously good time had by all:

I love this picture:

That lovely long-haired person playing guitar is none other than Keith Urban, playing guitar in an Alan Jackson video from long ago.   I know that all of you hard core Keith fans know this, but it’s still fun to look back on one of his earlier gigs.  In fact, Keith recently told the story of this encounter with AJ, who he was super-excited to meet.  Here’s the video:

Thanks again to my pal Shannon at NashvilleGab.com for digging this up.

If a class of 4th graders is lagging behind academically at the end of this school year, their parents have Keith Urban to thank, indirectly anyway. Why? Because a Tennessee teacher went to a Keith Urban show with a sign that said, “I told my class no more homework for the rest of the year if I got my picture made with you.” Keith saw the sign and thought it was funny, so he brought her up on stage and posed with her. And this teacher is a woman of her word! Which means truly, no homework for her kids, all year long. “Thank God I’m tenured,” she says.  What do you think of this? If she were my daughter’s teacher, I might feel a little ripped off (though of course my daughter would be thrilled). But this teacher says, “Keith literally made my dream come true. And that’s what I told my kids on Monday, that if it’s your dream to be a Tennessee Titan, don’t let anything stop you.” Hmmmm…still not fully convinced.

Yesterday was day 11 for the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis, and the last day that the shuttle would ever be docked to the International Space Station.  And the song they chose to be woken up to was none other than Keith Urban’s “Days Go By.”  Nice choice!  Here’s a video that sums the whole thing up…

You! If you’re a cancer survivor. Darius Rucker, Lady A and Keith Urban have all recorded happy birthday songs as part of the American Cancer Society’s “More Birthdays” campaign, with the idea being that we should all celebrate how more people are surviving cancer, and of course our hope that more people in the future will be able to as well. So if you go to this website, you can send a customized birthday greeting to anyone you know from some pretty cool stars.

Thank you, John Mayer, for taking this, the coolest picture of Keith Urban ever.

What’s bringing Keith Urban together with a guy who’s famous for kissing and telling, and another guy famous for kissing and texting?  It’s “Tiger Jam,” Tiger Woods’ annual benefit show in Vegas, and this year the show will be Keith and his pal John Mayer (famous for kissing and telling about a bunch of famous women, like Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston).  Tiger (I don’t have to remind you about the kissing and texting, do I?) says he’s thrilled to have them, and he should be.  I think when the phone rings and it’s Tiger, some big stars might still hesitate to be involved with him (except adult film stars, perhaps!)  In defense of Tiger, though, the event has raised over $12 million over the years for his foundations, which mainly help needy kids with sports scholarships and other assistance.
