Previously, it seems like it’s been impossible for Miley Cyrus to shock or offend her dad, Billy Ray.  Whether she’s pole dancing, grinding, cage dancing or kissing a girl, Billy Ray always reacts the same way, with some kind of statement that Miley’s just expressing her art, yada yada.  But now, Miley’s new video (for “Who Owns My Heart”, which shows her writhing on a bed in a blindfold and skimpy lingerie) has been condemned by a group called the Parents Television Council, which calls Miley out for making such a provocative video after building her career on the “backs of young girls.”  What’s this got to do with Billy Ray?  He’s on the advisory board of that group!  So was Billy Ray advised of this statement, or was he not around that day?  I’d sure like to know.

So, I’m guesing you’ll be hearing a lot about this one:  Miley Cyrus just did an interview with Parade magazine, and this is what she said about why she hasn’t pursued a career in country music:

“It scares me, that’s why. It feels contrived on so many levels.  Unless you’re wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy boots and singing and whining about your girlfriend or boyfriend leaving you it’s not going to sell.”

Whoa.  Then there’s this:  “I think that’s why my dad finally got out of it.  You have to wear those cowboy boots and be sweet as pie.  It makes me nervous, the politics of it all.”

OK.  There’s lots to discuss here.  But mainly, I’m surprised to hear that Billy Ray Cyrus “finally got out of” country.  Last time I checked, Billy Ray was still making country music and releasing it to country radio.  The problem was that his more recent songs just weren’t clicking enough with fans to become hits.  Now don’t get me wrong, we love Billy Ray.  Super nice guy, and we wish him well.  But I’m just wondering why his daughter thinks he’s “gotten out” of country.

Yes. Kissing the same guy, that is.  The dude who starred in Miley Cyrus’ movie and in Taylor Swift’s video for “You Belong With Me.”  His name is Lucas Till, and a while back I reported that there was some speculation about him and Taylor.  Turns out it was true, if you believe Lucas himself.  He says they dated for a little bit but there was “no friction,” meaning they got along too well and were more like friends.  Since he also dated Miley while working on her movie, he was asked the inevitable question about who was the better kisser, and he voted for Taylor.  So that’s literally “kissing and telling.”  I wonder if Taylor will write a song about him to get even!
