In her songs, Miranda Lambert has used gunpowder, lead, and kerosene to exact revenge on her enemies. But in her latest song, “Only Prettier,” Miranda says she has found a new way to do it. The song, which suggests that the best way to deal with “mean girls” is to just smile, be nice, and know down deep that you are better and prettier than them, is a departure for her. Here she explains the new approach: “I’ve grown up a little bit, and maybe I’ll just kill you with kindness, literally! …we all have those people that were better than us or thought they were, and that’s kind of my anthem to say, ‘You’re all right, but I’m actually prettier than you in the reality of things, so I don’t know where you get off thinkin’ that you can be rude.’”
